Insert size and paper
A regular-size Traveler’s Notebook insert is a tall, narrow booklet. Notebook Generator places two insert pages side by side on a landscape sheet and arranges them so that the pages read in order after folding.
| Insert | Page size | Prints on | Trimming |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular | 110 × 210 mm (4.33 × 8.27 in) | A4 or US Letter, landscape | Sides only on A4; sides, top and bottom on Letter |
Covers from different makers vary, so measure the inside of your cover. If your inserts need to be 1–2 mm smaller, open the page size settings in the maker and enter your own dimensions.
How to print and assemble an insert
- Open a preset above, change or add pages, and choose Download PDF → Print-ready booklet. The summary shows how many sheets you need.
- Print double-sided, flip on the short edge, at 100% (Actual size). Not sure about your printer? Print one sheet first and hold it up to the light: the frames on both sides should line up.
- Fold every sheet in half along the fold marks, nest them in order and line up the spine.
- Trim the outer edges along the crop marks with a craft knife and a metal ruler, or with a paper trimmer.
- Sew a three-hole pamphlet stitch through the fold, or use a long-reach stapler.
- Slide the insert under the elastic of your cover. Add a kraft or cardstock cover to the insert if you like.
For heavier ink or fountain pens, 90–100 g/m² paper shows less through the page. Smooth, bright copy paper is fine for pencil and gel pens.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a regular Traveler's Notebook insert?
The regular size is about 110 × 210 mm (4.33 × 8.27 in). Covers from different makers vary by a few millimeters, so measure your cover and adjust the page size in the maker if needed.
What paper should I print inserts on?
Letter or A4. Two insert pages fit side by side on one landscape sheet. On A4 the page height is exactly the paper height, so you only trim the sides; on Letter you also trim about 3 mm at the top and bottom. The PDF includes crop marks.
How many pages should an insert have?
32 pages (8 sheets) is a typical insert and folds and sews easily. Thin paper allows up to about 48 pages (12 sheets). For more, make two inserts and use two elastics.
How do I bind an insert without a stapler?
Use a three-hole pamphlet stitch: pierce three holes along the fold, sew through them with waxed thread or embroidery floss, and tie off inside. The sewing guide shows each step. A long-reach stapler also works.
Can I mix page types in one insert?
Yes. Combine, for example, a monthly calendar, weekly pages and dot grid notes in the same insert. The booklet imposition keeps every page in order after folding.
